Description
1795 Philadelphia & Lancaster Turnpike Road Signed by William Bingham.
Early copper plate engraving of a horse drawn covered wagon approaching a toll house gate. This scarce and original document, printed on vellum, is the earliest example of private capital building America's roads. This uncancelled certificate was still valid in 1899, over 100 years after it was issued. At the time he signed this stock certificate, William Bingham, President of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike, was said to be one of the wealthiest men in the United States. There is some light age toning, mostly on the back, otherwise Extremely Fine.

Is It Graded
Correctly
? -
Most buyers trust the grading services, but what about coins and notes that aren't certified? I've been in the coin and paper money business since 1973 and have cataloged numismatic material for major auction companies such as Stack's-Bowers, Spink, and R. M. Smythe & Company, but perhaps the best way to feel confident in my grading is to look at my eBay feedback (
