5399. you can feel the friendship and respect that Ned Buntline had for John Quinn in this poem. this poem "THE MARCH BORN" has been published and the only book found with it in it so far was from the appraiser who found it in an 1844 book of poems she did not tell me the mane of the book. Ned was a fascinating man. he was a hero by saving many lives from the East River and he was only 17 yrs. old. President Martin Van B. gave him a higher rank in the Navy - I think that was his reward. he served in the Civil War, served in the Navy and the Army before the civil War and had, so it was said, 6 wives. he was the creator of the "Dime Novel". His last name (pen name) Buntline is the nautical term for a rope at the bottom of a square sail. His full Christian name is  Edward Zane Carroll Judson. this poem was written down on Congress paper see the little embossed logo in the top left corner of the top page and was written down to give specifically to be given to John Quinn through their mutual friend Oliver Sloan Holden (i do not know what part he/Holden played in their lives). all the pages are glued together to form the long poem that is is folded. it is signed three times, once on the outside folded page, and again at the beginning of the poem just under the poems name and inscribed again at the bottom/end of the poem. the pages are fragile but stable and can be framed or kept folded. this item will be shipped insured via Priority mail. I will be happy to help with any questions that you may have if i can. thank you for looking and please see ll my Hon. John Quinn items from his personal scrap book. i'm listing as fast as i can; lots more to com. this listing is for "The March Born" triple autographed hand written inscribed poem only.
