b/w bust photograph of Oppenheimer, director of the Manhattan Project, smoking a pipe in a suit and tie. Accompanied by an unsigned French-language newspaper obituary of Oppenheimer.
Inscribed photograph signed
"to Victor Capron/with good wishes/Robert Oppenheimer"
in blue ink. B/w, 4¾x6¾ overall, 4½x5¾ image, one surface, printed on cardstock. Lightly toned, silvered, creased and bowed. Light chipping in top left corner of image. Otherwise in fine condition.
Accompanied by:
Unsigned French-language newspaper obituary of Oppenheimer. 1 page, 4x10. Dated Feb. 18, 1967 in unknown hand in top left corner. Lightly toned and creased. Irregular edges. Pinhole in top left corner. Otherwise in fine condition. As a theoretical physicist at UC-Berkeley, J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904-1967) did groundbreaking research on nuclear physics, quantum mechanics and stellar spectroscopy.
Oppenheimer was the Director of the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb,
at Los Alamos, New Mexico, from 1942-1945. From 1947-1966, he was the Director of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey.
Oppenheimer lost his security clearance in 1954, a result of both his many left-wing associations and - probably - his opposition to the hydrogen bomb and to the nuclear arms race. A decade later, and shortly before his death, President Johnson conferred on him the Enrico Fermi Award, signaling his political rehabilitation.

Return Policy:
If any substantial defect not described in the item listing is found by the purchaser, the item(s) must be returned within 3 days of receipt. Item(s) may not be returned except for reasons of authenticity or substantial defect in description. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express & PayPal. PayPal customers must have a confirmed address on file with PayPal. Customers must provide a daytime telephone number to be used in case of any shipping difficulties.

Shipping
- We ship via FedEx and USPS. Shipping charges are calculated at time of payment and are dependent on the number of items purchased and the destination shipping address.
Due to the value of most purchases, a signature is required for delivery. This policy limits our ability to ship to PO Boxes.
All international shipments (destinations outside the U.S) will be sent via FedEx. Please feel free to contact us in advance for shipping charges - international customers are encouraged to do so.
