Wallabies legend, ‘Junkyard Dog’ ink extensions

The ACT Brumbies have positioned themselves for more Australian domination after re-signing coach Stephen Larkham for two more Super Rugby Pacific seasons.
Since returning from Ireland, Larkham has guided the Brumbies to two straight semi-final appearances as the other four Aussie clubs fell by the wayside.
The extension also keeps Larkham front and centre in the eyes of Rugby Australia as a potential next Wallabies coach.

Test legend Larkham expressed interest in replacing Eddie Jones as the national boss but RA snapped up Joe Schmidt instead.
Schmidt comes off contract at the end of 2025.
“As a Canberra local this opportunity is something I am continually excited by, and I am grateful for the support I have received from Phil (Thomson, CEO) and the Brumbies board in extending my time in the role,” Larkham said.

“I feel the Brumbies are in a great position heading into 2025 and I am excited to leverage our recent on-field strength in our preparations as we aim for further success next season.”
The Brumbies finished the 2024 season with a 12-2 record and beat the Highlanders in the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual champion Blues.
“Stephen has made a remarkable contribution since returning to the head coach role in 2022 and his extension is something that greatly excites the organisation as a whole,” Thomson said.

“His connection with the playing group has translated into impressive on the field performances by the team in 2023 and 2024 and I am confident he will continue to inspire success at the Super Rugby Pacific level. I am eager to see Stephen continue building on his legacy in Australian rugby for a further two years at the Brumbies.”
Meanwhile, the Queensland Reds have locked in cult hero winger Tim Ryan on a two-year extension.
Ryan, 20, enjoyed a brilliant rookie campaign in 2024, scoring a hat-trick of tries as his ‘Junkyard Dog’ moniker took hold.

“We saw an explosion of Tim Ryan talent didn’t we with the ‘Junkyard Dog?’ It’s really positive to see a winger like him as part of our program,” Reds coach Les Kiss said.
“The thing we love is his commitment to his craft.
“Every part of his preparation is strong and he has a great future because of that.”
